The Lords Taverners National Junior Championship 2011
Northern Ireland's U15 & U19 Wheelchair Basketball Squads have returned from the Lord Taverners UK Regional Junior Wheelchair Basketball Championships at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury with some impressive results.
The competition is split into an Under 15 competition and an Under 19 competition, with Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the various English regions competing for silverware.
The NI U15's racked up some impressive scalps along the way, reaching the final, only to be denied the elusive Gold Medal in a thrilling match versus East Midlands, with the English region running out 20-16 winners. A fantastic achievement for our young squad competing against 9 other UK regions.

NI U15 Squad: Jack Agnew, Aaron Gillen, Peter Lewis, Conn Nagle, Eoin Nagle, Conor Brown, Dane Brown, Luke Marshall, Ross Gourley
In the U19 competition, the NI U19's had joined forces with the Scottish U19's and finished a very creditable 4th place.

The competition provides opportunity for young players across the UK to take part against each other and is an essential part of the development of wheelchair basketball player and every year the standard has got stronger.

Tournament organiser and British Wheelchair Basketball’s Junior Development Officer, Tina Gordon said after the event, “Congratulations to all the teams that took part, it was a great success and we could never have done it without them, their parents, coaches and supporters. We saw an extremely high standard of being basketball played and the competition is getting stronger and stronger every year and we hope it continues to keep growing. I’d also like to thank the Lord’s Taverners without them there would not be a Championships and their support is crucial to the development of the Junior Programme.”
