JUNIOR TOURNAMENT 2010
The Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club played host to an extravaganza of wheelchair basketball with a Junior Tournament and a round of high level senior games. The event took place on Saturday 29th of May at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown and was attend by young disabled athletes from all across Ireland. The day kicked off with the first round of games that saw the City Side Dribblers take a commanding lead at the top of the table with back to back wins over the Lough Neagh Monsters and the North Coast Sharks. The second round of games finished up with a nail biter with the Sharks forcing the Monsters into overtime only to be piped at the end by two points.
The spectator gallery in the UUJ was treated to a fast and furious encounter from the Knights senior players that included one Great Britain and four Irish International capped players. Knights coach Jason Kennedy and Irish team captain commented “This day is all about the kids; it’s great to see so many young athletes here today enjoying their sport, the standard of play and effort shown has been excellent”.
The final round of games saw the City Side Dribblers come out on top to win the Junior Tournament with team captain James MacSorley collecting the trophy. The junior tournament Most Valuable Player trophy was presented to a beaming Luke Marshall from Belfast with Chris O’Neil from Portglenone receiving the senior MVP. Enjoy the photos below......
